Models of Communication

There are two types of communication models. The first is the transmission model. This is the most common model in society today. In this model the sense of mediation refers to how messages are transmitted from one person to another. Communication is a form of transportation. Messages are transported from a sender to a receiver. This model is based on the interpersonal context. One major challenge in this model is misinterpretation of the message.

The other model of communication is the cultural model. In this model there is a close connection between social communication and common culture. Rituals  and other repetitive communication practices are part of the cultural model. The human experience is defined in part by the contribution to a specific human culture that binds society together.
